Our work at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, CA, involved equal parts roofing expertise, project management, and communication.
The roof was beyond its lifespan and needed replacing, but with hospitals running 24/7, the project required careful planning and execution with all hands on deck.
The construction schedule was one of the hospital staff’s early concerns, so our team outsourced tear-off. “It cut about four weeks off the schedule right away.
The construction and expansion of St. Joe’s happened in three or four phases, so the crews would work up to an expansion joint in the building and then pause.
Visalia Warehouse - Scope: Restoration
In 2021, BT took on the challenge of a Logistics and Supply Warehouse project in Visalia. The building’s sizeable flat roof highlighted BT’s expertise in planning, management, repair, and restoration.
Planning was crucial to the job, especially since the crew needed to manage 800,000 square feet of TPO, insulation materials, and the thousands of fasteners required.
One inch of water across 800,000 square feet weighs up to 4.1 million pounds. Not many roof systems and infrastructure can manage that load, so designing and installing effective drainage systems is crucial.
BT’s crews built 11-inch crickets — triangular structures designed to divert water around a roof penetration — on this project to get the water flowing in the right direction and off the roof.
As soon as the roof deck and crickets were ready, BT crews started carefully rolling out the TPO system, ensuring each sheet was laid properly for drainage purposes.
Given the various heights from deck to system, crews used up to seven different-sized fasteners during installation. Multiple automatic welders were used throughout the project to heat weld the membrane laps together at the seam.
