BT Roofing Earns Carlise Hall of Fame 500 Award

Bigham Taylor Roofing Earns Prestigious Carlisle SynTec Systems Hall of Fame 500 Awards

Bigham Taylor Roofing earned the Carlisle SynTec Systems Hall of Fame 500 Award, becoming the first contractor in California to achieve 500 “Perfect 10” scores based on manufacturer inspections on reroofing jobs using Carlisle’s single-ply membrane. To date, BT has more than 512 projects with a Perfect 10, almost five times as many as the nearest competitor.

“This award is the result of a continued focus on doing quality work across the board,” says Bigham Taylor’s General Manager and Partner Steve Galli, “and a great partnership with Carlisle’s technical reps who visit our job sites to ensure we’re adhering to their specification standards at the highest level.”

The Carlisle Hall of Fame Award is the culmination of nearly 50 years of delivering superior quality and service to clients across Northern California and Northern Nevada and a dedication to hiring, training, and supporting a crew of experienced roofing experts.

The relationship between BT and Carlisle SynTec Systems dates back to 1983. As of the fall of 2024, Bigham Taylor had installed more than 21.5 million square feet of Carlisle single-ply membrane on various projects, including Fellowship Plaza in Saratoga, Atria Senior Living in Novato, and an 800,00 square foot warehouse in Visalia.

“Bigham Taylor is a tremendous contractor to work with,” says Mike Lampkin, Partner at Building Enclosure Solutions, Inc., an independent sales agent for Carlisle SynTec Systems. “We’ve been working with them for more than 20 years and can’t speak highly enough about everyone there, from the people in the field to the office. They are some of the industry’s most impressive people, and it’s good to see them recognized with an honor that not many people earn.”

Jonah Cross, Partner at Building Enclosure Solutions, Inc., points out that BT’s level of communication before, during, and after a project is one of the company’s strengths. “Our relationship with BT is a respectful joint effort with a high level of mutual respect to provide a positive experience for the building owner and an overall zeal to want to serve the industry and create a relationship with the building owner so that they have an outstanding experience and tell everyone they know that BT and Carlisle is the path of least resistance.”

The First Step to Perfection — Training

Bigham Taylor instituted a formal training program more than a decade ago, building best practices into their day-to-day work.

“We start training our people as soon as they walk through the door,” says Vice President of Field Operations and Partner Steve Yocham. “We show them how to do the job and what it means to complete it so that nothing is left on the punch list. That information is passed down to every guy on our crews and supported by the foremen and superintendents.”

Carlisle sends reps to BT’s yard to train up their crew. “We set up mock roof decks in the yard where guys can practice welding and calibrate a robot,” says Superintendent Rod Freitas. “We do a lot of hands-on training and have regular meetings with our foreman to walk through any issues we see.”

BT’s crew takes that training from the roof yard to a project’s roof with support from the company’s foremen, superintendents, and project managers.

Quality Control is Vital for Roofing Success

Perfect inspection scores start with daily quality control measures, including calibrating the robot in the morning and after lunch and test cuts after the first 50 feet of the run.

“Before we start rolling out the membrane, we warm up the equipment that hot welds everything,” explains Rod. “We take a sacrificial sheet that’s not part of the roof system and calibrate the robot on that sheet. Then we do a pull test on that sheet, sign it, and date it.”

Those calibration sheets are a record for the technical rep who inspects the project, and they ensure that the robot is set correctly because weather conditions and temperatures affect how the robot operates.

“By doing that, we’re not welding X amount of finished produce that needs to be repaired,” he says. “We’re calibrating the equipment separately from the roof. Once that’s done, we start rolling product onto the field.”

The Bigham Taylor policy of taking a test cut after the first 50 feet ensures the welds are correctly done, avoiding costly and time-consuming repairs.

Experience Matters

Bigham Taylor’s roster of superintendents and foremen are some of the most experienced in the industry.

“Rod and Marty have 40 years in the industry, Jose Reyes, Jr. has been doing this for 30 years, and Naum has something like 25 years,” reports Steve Galli. “So, our four superintendents are experienced in all facets of roofing, and they take every project seriously. They also share information about different roof types and projects, which is shared with our foremen and crews. Those are the things that contribute to our success as a company and earning this award. I’m happy for those guys.”
