Before Ken and Diane Hendricks opened the first American Builders and Contractors Supply stores in 1982, Ken had been working in the roofing and construction industry for practically his whole life. In fact, it was the treatment that his father received from their roofing and siding suppliers that fueled his customer first approach.

In the 29 years since, ABC has grown to be one of the largest residential and commercial roofing suppliers in the United States. The company recently finalized the acquisition of Bradco Supply Corp., bringing ABC Supply’s store count to 479 in 44 states and the District of Columbia.

Bigham Taylor relies on ABC for an assortment of single ply, built up and tapered roofing systems from manufacturers like Johns Manville and Carlisle. The companies have teamed to work on buildings for customers such as ProLogis, Legacy Partners and BD Bioscience.

ABC Supply’s Chuck Miller, who’s been in the roofing industry 35 years, is BT’s go-to person. “We work with Bigham Taylor and the manufacturer to make sure they have everything they need to apply a system properly,” Chuck explains. “I used to be a roofing contractor, so I am able to relate my experience to the project and help out.”

Beyond systems and supplies, Chuck utilizes his knowledge when it comes to delivery points and protecting the grounds from damage. “I go out to the project and make sure our people know where to put the delivery. If we need to put it on a roof we’ll bring out a crane or a Grade-all forklift,” he says. “That’s a service I don’t think our competitors offer.”
